PSA about bisexuality and pansexuality re: binarism and cissexism

Identifying as bi does not automatically make a person anti-nonbinary or anti-trans. The “bi” in bisexual and biromantic refers to the duality of self plus other, not the two binary genders, or “attraction to two genders.” Bi people have the potential to be attracted their own gender plus others. There is nothing binarist or cissexist about this definition of bisexuality (self plus others) that is used by every major bisexual organization.

Identifying as pan does not automatically make a person NOT be anti-nonbinary or anti-trans. The “pan” means potential attraction to any gender, or attraction without reference to gender. It does not mean “attraction to men, women and trans people” or “attraction to men, women and nonbinary people.” Trans people can be men! Trans people can be women! The potential to be attracted to nonbinary people is not unique to pansexual and panromantic people! The potential to be attracted to men and women who happen to be trans is not unique to pansexual and panromantic people!

– a nonbinary trans person who is tired of cis people who think bisexuality is automatically binarist/cissexist and cis people who think pansexuality is automatically anti-binarist/anti-cissexist

And if I may add to this, a lot of pan people insist that they don’t care about gender, which can be good in some ways but can also be quite erasing for those who see their gender as important and have to fight for people to recognise it anyway.

Ah, I’ve been looking for a good comparison between bisexuality and pansexuality. My boyfriends bisexual, or at least that’s what he identifies as, and he has always taken it to be both types of genitals, but he does have a preference.

In my opinion I think that should start being the difference between them, that bisexuality has a preference whereas pansexuality is gender blind type thing. (I mostly think this because it seems to me that’s how people that identify as such go that way, but that’s just me.
