Can we talk about Saints Row for a second?

faultyfeminist:

Can we talk about how a series that started off as a GTA ripoff, before becoming a GTA parody, has some of the best damn female characters I’ve every encountered?

How there’s more than one, for one thing?

How when women are the enemy, they’re treated seriously?

How it manages to have “sexy” characters who are more than just “sexy characters”?

How you can fight a women without it being stupidly sexualised? And a fight between two women isn’t just an excuse to have them rip each other’s clothes off, it’s a real fight?

How a female character has 600 ex-boyfriends but isn’t slutshamed for it?

How it has feminine characters, unfeminine characters, smart characters, strong characters, characters of colour, and not just as tokens?

How a character is into BDSM without being seen as in some way disturbed or gross for it?

How one game has a very strong, hyper-masculine villain and one weak but smart villain (among others), and both are treated seriously?

How the possibility of characters being male, female, gay, straight, bi, asexual, etc is provided without derision?

If this is what we get in a “joke” series…

Let’s make more jokes.
