whats bothering me about the minimum wage discourse is that the response to “these jobs are for people who didnt finish high school, not for parents and college graduates” is always “nuh uh, look at these statistics that show college students and parents working these jobs!”

when to be perfectly honest, the response SHOULD be “so fucking what?” people who didnt finish high school and dont have kids? these people still deserve to eat and have a roof over their heads. and nowadays, those people can’t even fucking GET jobs a lot of the time BECAUSE those jobs are being taken by college students/graduates and parents (which i want to clarify is NOT an attempt to assign blame to the people who got the jobs; the economy is broken and shitty and EVERYONE needs to do what they gotta do to survive).

if your argument for higher minimum wage throws people under the bus because they dont meet your educational standards, then it is a bad, ableist, classist argument and you need to rethink it.
