My kid started grade 6 today! United way was supposed to help us with school supplies but failed to follow up with me, and did not respond to my attempts to follow up. As a result, we had to pay for school supplies out of pocket. And now the teachers have sent home a list of other supplies that weren’t on the school supply list so we didn’t budget for them. We also have to rent his instrument for band class, and it turns out the clothes my mum got for him are a size too small.

He wants to play trumpet which is apparently $30/month (if he gets super into it we’ll just but him one for $120 but we’ll stick with renting for now bc who knows if he will enjoy it). Figuring about $40 for clothes and supplies we need $70 to get through the start of the school year.
